APPLYING TS-90 DECADE 10-YEAR DECK-PAINT

This information has been prepared for use with Decade Deck Paint System on prepared surfaces. All surfaces must be thoroughly dry before application. The maximum recommended Moisture Content (MC) for wood is 12% MC whereas concrete cannot be higher than 10% MC.  Properly adjusted moisture meter readings, VaporGuage calcium chloride moisture test, or the equivalent, must be made prior to painting to establish that the substrate falls within the recommended parameters for MC. Decade may be used with TS-160 Accelerator/Hardener, which is optional on residential wood surfaces, however, recommended on concrete. Do not apply when rain is forecast within 48 hours. Best results will be obtained by rollercoat, however spray applications are acceptable. Never paint in hot direct sunlight or when humidity is above 70%. Failure to adhere to all recommendations voids the warranty so please be sure to follow these instructions carefully, label directions, and standard industry practices.

1. PREP-WORK: All repairs should be completed and cured prior to cleaning, sanding or the application of primer or topcoating. Be sure all repair materials are paintable before use. Repair materials must be allowed to cure thoroughly before sanding or application of coatings. Recommend sanding wood surfaces, which is preferable to power washing which causes unwanted moisture saturation. Recommend allowing Pressure Treated (PT) wood to stand one full year before applying paint or primer. NOTE: New construction is often PT wood. Contact your builder for details. Recommend using TS-695 Etching Cleaner on concrete and where heavy grease or oil require removal. Rinse thoroughly. Recommend TS-104 Seal-It! where there is evidence or suspicion of high moisture content or hydrostatic pressure.

3. APPLYING DECADE PRIMER: Recommend TS-664 Etching Primer. Stir primer thoroughly for 1 minute with a high speed mixer. Apply primer evenly avoiding heavy build up. Recommended Wet Film Thickness (WFT) is 4 mils. Primer may be brushed, rolled or sprayed according to label directions. Strain if spraying. Dilute as needed with TS-605 Thinner (do not substitute). Apply evenly avoiding heavy build up. Allow primer coat to dry 2–48 hours before applying Decade Paint. After 48 hours recommend sanding lightly with 220 grit. Exceptionally porous substrates may require two coats of primer. NOTE: Primer is porous! Recommend protecting primer from moisture, dew and high humidity conditions.

PAINTED WOOD: Painted surfaces in sound condition (without evidence of peeling or failure) may be over-coated with Decade Primer and Paint without stripping when properly applied according to recommendations. Recommend TS-664 Etching Primer allows you to paint prepared decking materials including wood, concrete, fiberglass, Trex and similar surfaces.

4. APPLYING DECADE PAINT: Recommend applying two coats of Decade Paint by roller coat. Stir thoroughly with a high speed mixer for 1 minute, dilute 5-10% with TS-605 Thinner. NOTE: Dark colors, extremes in temperature and individual application method may require additional thinner.  Pour TS-160 A/H into Decade Paint then stir again. There is no induction time–pot life is 4-6 hrs. Recommended Wet Film Thickness (WFT) is 2 mils maximum on a per coat basis. Apply evenly avoiding ponding and heavy build up. Recommend allowing to dry 12-48 hours before applying second coat, after 48 hours recommend sanding lightly with 220 grit, allow to dry and cure a minimum of 48-72 hours before allowing foot traffic, do not allow Paint to get wet for 48 hours minimum.

NOTE: Dry and cure times vary with the weather, temperature, thickness of application and color. Allow extra dry and cure time for dark colors. Recommend applying maintenance coats according to above directions. We are available to answer questions at 360-651-9050 M-F 8 AM to 5 PM PST.
